Actuarial Science Students Hold Annual Career Day

Actuarial Science students held their annual Career Day on February 7, 2025, featuring prominent speakers from the Institute of Certified Investment and Financial Analysts (ICIFA). The event provided students with valuable insights into career prospects in the financial sector.

The keynote speakers were FA Martin Pule, Senior Training and Research Officer at ICIFA, and FA Prisca Chepngetich, Administrator at ICIFA College. They addressed the critical role of actuaries and financial analysts in various fields, including investment and financial analysis, pension funds, asset management, corporate finance, fund management, financial advisory, and wealth management. Other key areas discussed included real estate investment, insurance investment advisory, capital market operations, and investment banking.

Emphasizing the growing demand for technical skills, the speakers highlighted the importance of proficiency in data analysis, statistics, and programming languages such as R and Python. Mastery of these skills, they noted, is essential for graduates to remain competitive in an evolving financial landscape driven by technology and analytics.

The annual Career Day serves as a platform for students to engage with industry experts, explore career opportunities, and gain insights into professional development. By fostering industry-academic collaborations, such events continue to prepare future actuaries and financial analysts for the dynamic financial sector.
